The Fighting Finest Boxing Team is a team that has its roots set firmly in the ranks of the NYPD. The comradary and sportsmanship known to all who have stepped into the squared circle and the belief that charity is a key component in our lives. In short, we're a bunch of boxers from the NYPD who will fight almost anyone in the name of charity. But really, we are all Officers from the NYPD who love the sport of boxing only for the sport itself, and we appreciate the fact that whenever two opponents are fairly matched, within the rules of boxing, both the boxers and the fans have the ability to participate in something that is really worthwhile. The Fighting Finest was started by Detective Carl Schroeder in 1982, along with fellas like John Carlton and Dan O'Leary. First there were the Smokers which are "closed" boxing matches within their own groups (in this case, cops), and then later a team was developed. That team fought other Police and Fire Departments around the world and went to places like Italy, Bulgaria, and the USSR (yes, you read that right, 1982!) Now the team is run by Dave Siev and Pat Russo, along with the help of a fine staff and excellent pugilists and we too have a legacy that reaches far out. We have been to Spain and England and here in the US - just all over. We run smokers and white-collar shows in New York and you don't have to be a Police Officer to attend and enjoy one of our shows. We sometimes match up against the FDNY, and at other times team up with our "Brothers in Red" as we match up against other states and countries.
